2008, a year in review

2008 is by far the best year of my life. Also being an Olympic year just made it even better. I'll reflect on my year in 2008...

  • My level 9 competition season. It felt amazing to finally enter the world of "real" gymnastics as some might say. Although I wasn't the best level 9 it really raised my confidence and made me believe I could actually do something in the sport.
  • HOPES- A really up and down thing. Or as me and my friends call, hell on planet earth sometimes. Even though it adds an extra 7 hours and a pound of pressure to our week it really pays off. The really sucky part about this was routine training after the end of our competition season, which would usually be more laid back workouts. But, when all 4 of us qualified to the Challenge, it all paid off.
  • The US Challenge- My highlight of 2008. I was definitely at my peak and I was feeling great about everything. Traveling with the coaches was especially fun because we HOPES girls got a lot of time to bond in our own hotel room. The competition was great, compulsories were solid fro all of us and going into optionals we didn't know what to expect. Well everything turned out pretty good. I even placed on beam, which btw was a great moment. SO to wrap it all it, I love the thrill of elite competition.
  • Summer- Always a great time of year, we get to work new skills and lay off the routines. Some things I learned but never continued, like my khorkina realese on bars, due to lack of amazingness. And somethings I learned and continued, like my triple full on floor, was awesome because now I have an E.
  • Fall- It's always hard to get into competition mode, putting those routines together was not the easiest thing in the world but I worked through it and got everything down.
  • Injury- Everythingwas going well until a bad punch on a rudi and landing with my head on my wrist and basically breaking it. I went to the doctor and I had a cracked growth plate and some torn ligiments. And believe me, the day I walked in with a brace Lisa flipped! I was like "I'm sorry, i need to be in it for a few weeks" well not really but I wanted to say that. However, with competiton season nearing I had to shrug it off and was out of the brace after one day. Probably a bad decision because my wrist pain drove me to tears on every event. And with no coach except Bruce[bar coach] seeming to care, I just threw a wristguard on and worked thorough it. When I went home every night I iced and put my brace back on. Everything was getting more bearable when yet again [stupid rudi] landed on it wrong, about a week ago. and ever since have not had a pain free moment. I can't even sleep at night now ughh. So my dad got me Litocane, a pain reliever, so I could at least sleep. And now I'm working on avoiding the doctor so they don't put me in a cast.
So thats basically my 2008 gymnastics year. Very up and down and if anyone knows where I could get a wrist healing potion, leave a comment [:
